LIVE AND RETIRE IN MEXICO

liveretiremexicocoverright.jpg

"OUT OF MEXICO", by basia sattler, is a tale of discovery- a woman's telling about a baby boomer couple who liquidates their middle class life in Colorado and decides to live and retire in Mexico.

The author’s personal stories, correspondence, house construction journals and links to photographs take the reader through the frustrations, joys, and amusements of finding a new life in Mexico. Their jumping off point is Puerto Vallarta, along the Pacific coast of western Mexico. The new life is soon split between the comforts of the city and the raw beauty of a remote jungle bungalow on a secluded beach.

After 5 years of watching Puerto Vallarta grow from quaint town to bustling metropolis they make the decision to escape to the hills and root in the charming mountain pueblo of Talpa de Allende.
To live and retire in Mexico turns out to be the ultimate adventure.
In 2007, with her husband's colossal support and involvement, the author designs a dream home and sets forth, barely speaking Spanish, to lead the construction. The experiences surrounding the house-building are exhausting and exciting, frustrating and enlightening, some difficult to embrace, and many heart warming. Through them, Basia learns infinite patience that mañana may never come and logic is continually defied. After all, T.I.M. (This Is Mexico).

In 8 years of living in Mexico, both Sattler and her husband have encountered many cultural differences; a lifetime's worth of lessons how to live and retire in Mexico.
As of 2010 the couple continues their work on extensive landscaping projects and detailed finishes, still assimilating into the culture, forging a dream to an inspiring reality.

This documentary is as much about how to build a house, live and retire in Mexico as it is about life and friendship, gardening and traveling, food and health, getting older and finding rebirth in the new exhilarating lifestyle.
It is a great read for baby boomers who either already live abroad, are preparing to live abroad, or dream about it. In particular, it is a must-read for baby boomer menopausal women who face the most testing times of womanhood, but through these personal struggles find strength and wisdom.

Accompanied by links to photo albums and personal anecdotes, OUT OF MEXICO is an immensely entertaining documentary about finding a personal paradise and making it a home.

Live and retire in Mexico.
